Brandywine Trail Paving Project

We want  your input! Do you support or oppose the idea of paving along Brandywine Creek State Park?

July 18, 2019

The Division of Parks & Recreation is once again planning to pave a historic gravel road in Brandywine Creek State Park – from Rockland Road to Thompson Bridge Road and beyond. If you’ve ever walked along the Brandywine river, you’ll know this trail as the main corridor along the east side of the river, spanning fifteen feet wide and about three miles long. Their goal is to make the trail more resistant to erosion and more accessible to those with disabilities, in addition to expanding the regional network for pedestrians, equestrians, and bikers.

Pros:

  • Increased accessibility to the state park.
  • Better durability to withstand pedestrian use and erosion due to runoff

To see a more comprehensive list, read the FAQ’s document below.

Cons:

  • Loss of character to trails
  • Costs $360k

We want to know your thoughts! Take a short survey to let us know how you feel about the proposal.

For those keeping tabs on this issue, we wrote an article about this in February of last year. You can view that here. There was a large public outcry and the plans to pave were ultimately postponed.
